ASP is commonly used to refer to either Active Server Pages or to an Application Service Provider. These two things are completely unrelated to each other.

Active Server Pages (ASP)

Active Server Pages was developed by Microsoft® to enable server-side scripting. ASP is based on Visual Basic

Application Service Provider (ASP)

An Application Service Provider is a third-party company that provides software-based services to their clients, thus making it possible for a company or organization to manage their own information services in an inexpensive manner.
