Linux

A Unix-clone computer operating system written by Linus Torvalds and a team of programmers worldwide. Linux is extremely stable and is gaining in popularity. It is used by some as the operating system on network servers.

Linux is freeware, and its source code is open to modification by anyone willing to do so. Some companies distribute Linux with Linux-compatible utilities, and is, in fact, supported by several vendors including IBM and Compaq. See Unix.
