heatsink

The processor (CPU) produces a considerable amount of heat. This heat must be drawn away and dissipated. That's the job of the heatsink. A heatsink is attached to the top of the processor, and they have two parts: a heat-drawing coil (or similar part), and a fan. The heatsink's coil draws heat away from the body of the processor, while the fan blows the heat away from the area.

The heatsink pictured above is only one design. They come in many different shapes and sizes.
